Watched a marvelous Tamil kootthu folk drama in Toronto Sunday evening. The title of the drama was Indru poi, naalai vaa which carries a wider meaning something like: “The war is not over yet. Be prepared for my intended return to defeat you.” This particular story, excerpted from the Ramayana, is told from Ravana’s point of view. He is the demon-king of Sri Lanka who Lord Rama confronts, But in this re-telling Ravana (and especially his brother Kumbhakarna) are considered to be the story’s key heroes. The drama was beautifully performed with excellent choreography and superb song-driven interludes. I was happy to be there with with Eric plus our handsome grandson and his lovely wife.
