On Saturday, September 28, Dr. Brenda Beck was invited to give a short talk on the Ponnivala epic to the Tamil Literary Garden in Toronto.
The event was very well-attended, and while Dr. Beck’s talk wasn’t the main feature this time, the reception was very warm. Several in attendance opted to purchase copies of the complete edition of The Legend of Ponnivala, including the resident librarian.
One of the most inspiring events of the evening was the performance of “The King’s Fury — a Tamil Folk Drama” by Manuel Jesudasan and his urban theatre group. This folk drama was presented as part of Culture Days 2013, and had some very interesting parallels with The Legend of Ponnivala.
