Here are a few photos of a very recent exhibition by an eighth grade school class in Toronto where the students were asked to develop their own visual comments on a medieval Indian story. They had been assigned to read “The Legend of Ponnivala” (www.ponnivala.com) with special attention to issues related to Social Justice and to how problems from the past often resurface in our contemporary lives. Pictured below are 1)The overarching theme collage, 2) the book, 3) a beaten heroine, 4) a poisoned cat, 5) a kidnapped parrot, plus 6) & 7) two overviews of the exhibition developed around a “tree” concept. The last photo shows me standing next to this grand display.
