We had a great after-hours workshop event for teachers at the Cedarwood Public School here in Toronto last Wednesday. There is a lot of enthusiasm building for using the Legend of Ponnivala story in Ontario classrooms…. at all grade levels. Some, like Renuka DeSilva, have done a great job linking the story to teaching concepts that concern matters of social justice. In the first picture I am showing one student’s art work to the group. This little workbook, created by one of Renuka’s pupils, features examples of injustice depicted here and there in the larger story. The second picture shows me in conversation with Padmani Padiachy, Cedarwood VP and workshop organizer.
