JOYFUL RELIEF! Just delivered a huge wall-sized panel of images to the Markham Gateway Public School which is located in a residential area on the eastern edge of Toronto. There are many, many immigrant families located here, including large numbers of South Asians. This 20′ by 8′ high display tells the Legend of Ponnivala (a South Indian story) in graphic form. It was a challenge to get everything to hang straight, true (and still be safe). Lots of care was needed as there will be many children looking at this. But we succeeded! Starting next week there will be a series of storytelling sessions at this school that will feature Ponnivala’s epic-length tale. If you want to learn more about the individual images seen here, go to www.sophiahilton.com and click on “Study the Story.” Then scroll through the images one by one and the read the text that accompanies each picture cluster.
